For those of you new to the area we thought it would be good to give you some information about what this part of Scotland has to offer. To be honest, we had been mountaineering in Scotland for 30 years and when we discovered this area, purely by chance I might add, we had never heard of it either !!
The glen of Strathardle is situated in the north eastern corner of Perth & Kinross, with Angus to the east and Aberdeenshire to the north. The glen runs roughly north from Blairgowrie for some 20 miles, with only small villages along its' length. Heading north the first village is Bridge of Cally where a road heads up to Glenshee Ski Resort and our road heads up Strathardle. Through Ballintuim and on to Kirkmichael, this is the largest village in the glen with a wonderful community shop, three inns and its' own highland games every year in August. Beyond, the glen heads into the southern Cairngorm mountains with an abundance of lowland walks, high mountain ascents, scrambling, rock climbing, winter mountaineering and ice climbing - something for everyone !!
